The Stephen Longfellow Academy is named in honour of a colleague who worked across many schools in the Leeds region and established an outstanding reputation as a man who cared deeply about the most vulnerable and challenging pupils in our schools.

Sadly, Stephen died in a climbing accident in September 2015. It is a fitting tribute to his memory and contribution that he made across Leeds for over two decades to name this alternative provision free school after him.

Effective Alternative Provision

• The Stephen Longfellow Academy provides an exceptionally effective alternative provision for pupils aged 5 to 16 in the South Leeds region and surrounding areas.

• Pupils are referred from local primary and secondary schools.

• Places are largely time limited, and we have clear reintegration targets to support pupils in moving back into their own school.

High Quality Teaching and Therapeutic Excellence

• Strong therapeutic support wraps around the pupil and their family.

• We ensure that there is a strong focus on both personal growth and development and academic success.

We walk together.

Strong Academic Aspirations

• Our academic aspirations for our pupils are in line with national expectations.

• We ensure that pupils are able to achieve and improve their outcomes through outstanding teaching, learning and assessment, leadership and quality assurance.

Relentlessly Positive Approach

• We live by our mission statement of ‘We walk together’.

• We have a highly focused drive for excellence.

• We believe that every child can succeed regardless of their socio-economic background.
