Employment and Skills Officer for Leeds City Council (Becky Townsend) was invited into the academy to deliver assemblies on Apprenticeships to Key Stage 4 students. The aim was to raise awareness of the apprenticeship route and where apprenticeships can be found. There was also a focus on the promotion of the Leeds Apprenticeships Recruitment Fair on 6th February 2023 for Year 11 students.
Students provided positive feedback about the assemblies:
90% of students said they found the assembly useful
- 90% of students said they had a clearer understanding of apprenticeships
- 90% of students stated they would like to do an apprenticeship in the future
Becky’s response was also positive, stating:
“I enjoyed presenting to groups of year 10 and 11 students at Stephen Longfellow Academy about apprenticeships in February 2023. They listened well and I was particularly impressed with the student who spoke out about their interests in apprenticeships and that they were already taking responsibility for their next steps by booking onto the Leeds Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair 2023. I wish them all luck with their futures”.

The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work with the Leeds City Council Employment and Skills team to promote apprenticeships across the Academy and to show our students how to search and apply for them.
