Employment and Skills Officer for Leeds City Council (Yasmin Ali Pedro) was invited into the academy to deliver assemblies on Apprenticeships to students in Years 9,10 & 11. The aim was to raise awareness of the apprenticeship route and where apprenticeships can be found. There was also a focus on the promotion of the Leeds Apprenticeships Recruitment Fair on 5th February 2024 for Year 11 students.
The assemblies focused on what is an apprenticeship, levels, salary, types and where to look for them. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions.
Feedback was taken from students after the assemblies via feedback forms and answers can be seen below.
75% of students said they found the assembly useful.
80% of students said they had a clearer understanding of apprenticeships.
75% of students stated they would like to do an apprenticeship in the future.

For any student who missed the assemblies, the leaflets for the recruitment fair event and powerpoint slides used have been shared with form tutors to ensure those students don’t miss out on key information, which will be re-capped in form time.
The Stephen Longfellow academy will continue to work with the Leeds City Council Employment and Skills team to promote apprenticeships across the academy and to show our students how to search and apply for them. Raj Gill (Senior Careers Officer)
