The Stephen Longfellow Academy worked with the Ahead Partnership and BJSS to increase student knowledge and inspire them about the world of Digital Careers. Rich McIntyre (Chief Systems Engineer for BJSS) spoke to students about his journey into Digital Careers and what types of work there is available. He also covered the key skills needed to work in the sector, earning potential and routes into Digital careers. He was supported to deliver the presentation by Joanne Perry (Associate from the Ahead Partnership).
BJSS is a leading technology and engineering consultancy for business. BJSS collaborate with some of the world’s leading organisations to deliver complex, innovative technology, engineering, and industry solutions that millions of people use every day. They have offices in Leeds but are also based right across the world. Rich discussed his career journey and how systems engineering led him to work in Japan and work for companies such as Sky, BBC and the NHS, designing applications and building platforms.
Feedback taken from students showed that:
70% of students could now name at least 3 Digital Careers. Also 60% of students said they may consider a Digital career in the future.

“Hi Raj, I think I can speak for both of us when I say it was a pleasure. We were glad to have the opportunity. The behaviour of the students who were with us today was impeccable. All students were quiet and respectful. There was no giggling or whispering; they all held their attention well and there was some good eye contact. I was really impressed by the student who answered Rich’s question early in the session. I’m sure their Geography teacher was pleased! The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work with BJSS and there is visit to the BJSS offices in Leeds scheduled for Year 10 Students in July.
