Leeds City College delivered a Career Pathways workshop to Year 10 students at The Stephen Longfellow Academy. The main aim of the workshop was to raise aspirations about Post 16 options.
The workshop was split into three parts:
1. Presentation about all the different options at Leeds City College ( Included discussion with students about Vocational courses, A Levels, T Levels and Apprenticeships, as well entry requirements).
2. Careers Board Game (Activity 1) used a fun board game, where students were introduced to Further Education, Apprenticeship, Higher Education and Work Skills Terminology. Students competed against each other to get as high as they could on the board.
3. Celebrity Careers (Activity 2) Students looked at several celebrity career cards which included their current job and interests. Students were tasked with working out how the celebrities reached that career and what journey they took. Students were given a Leeds City College Prospectus to work through to link the celebrity careers to courses at college and also looked at the Labour Market Information for that career e.g. wages in the sector.
Students engaged well in the workshop. Feedback is stated below.
100% said that they had enjoyed the workshop.
90% said they had learned about Leeds City College as an FE provider in Leeds and about the different post 16 options that are delivered at the college.
90% said they had learned about new terminology linked with education and skills from activity game they played.
80% said they enjoyed the second game about celebrity Career Pathways and linking it with courses at Leeds City College.

“The Year 10 students demonstrated excellent engagement throughout the careers workshops. They listened attentively to the presentation, showing a clear interest in the information provided and responding positively to key themes.
The groups were also highly engaged during the interactive careers activities. Students participated enthusiastically, worked collaboratively within their teams, and approached the tasks with a positive attitude. Their teamwork and willingness to contribute were particularly encouraging to see.
