The Stephen Longfellow Academy worked with Channel 4 and their 4 Schools programme to promote a wide range of opportunities to students within the creative media sector.

Students in years 9 & 10 engaged in a practical workshop called “Have a go”. In the workshop, students were tasked with creating an advert for TV programme and worked in small groups. Students also learned about different jobs in the creative media sector and how a programme goes from the idea stage to production. The workshop was delivered by Channel 4 Schools facilitator Michael Longhi, supported by Mr Gill (Careers Officer) and Ms Folli (Art Teacher).

Our work with Channel 4, supports The Stephen Longfellow Academy to meet Gatsby Benchmark 4 (Linking curriculum learning to Careers) and Gatsby benchmark 5 (Encounters with Employers) which all constitute to good careers practice.

Channel 4 workshop Facilitator: Michael Longhi

“It was a pleasure meeting you and the students and I was really pleased how they engaged with the workshop. I couldn’t have been more welcomed into your school by all the staff and the set up was smooth and easy. Ms Folli and your help with engaging the students was invaluable, as them having a familiar face and voice there was essential in aiding them to become involved in the activity and the ideas the students produced were brilliant!”

The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work in partnership with Channel 4 and aim to make the sessions even more interactive.
