Students at The Stephen Longfellow Academy were given an amazing opportunity to see the renovation and extension at The Little London Primary School. The aim of the visit was to inspire students about the variety of careers in the Construction industry and gain a site experience.
Students from Years 10 attended the visit. On arrival students were given a health and safety brief and informed of the project by Mark Danford (Managing Director of Framework Installations). Mark also discussed the key employability skills he is looking for in employees. Mark also shared that a current Stephen Longfellow Academy student is on their current apprenticeship scheme as a Multi trade apprentice and is doing well. Students entered the site with full Personal Protective Equipment.
Students then had a 50-minute tour of the building site speaking to various site staff who explained in detail the different works on going and what they were currently doing. Throughout the tour, students asked a variety of questions and engaged. Students came across a Site Manager, Electrical Engineer, Joiners, Floor laying specialists and Painters and Decorators.
Student feedback about the visit was positive. Majority of the students said the visit had inspired them to work in Construction and would recommend the visit to others.
The school will continue to develop its relationships with Framework Installations to support its Career Programme and inspire our students. Since the site visit, Framework Installations have informed us that they will be able to set up some work shadowing placements, which we will offer our students in June 2025 as part of work experience week.
