The Careers Team at Stephen Longfellow Academy worked in partnership with Teaching Personnel staff to support Year 10 students learn about the importance of a CV and participate in a practical workshop.

Students were given an initial presentation by Cameron Prince (Recruitment Consultant) from Teaching Personnel. He explained to groups of Year 10 students about what a CV is, what is the benefit of having one, essentials to put on a CV and showed examples of good and bad CV’S.

Students were then given the opportunity to work with Cameron to create their own CV. Students were given a template and a word bank sheet to help them in the production of the CV.  Additional support was offered by Ms Lawrie (English Teacher) and school Careers staff ensuring every student left the session with a completed CV.

I think the student behaviour and engagement was really good. The first two groups were fantastic, really engaged and produced some really good work for their CVs. The last group were definitely a livelier bunch and did well to get some really good stuff on their CVs!”

Feedback from students showed that:

100% said they felt more confident with CV’s after the session.

75% said they would recommend the CV workshop to other students.

“I have learned that with help I can produce a professional CV”.

The CV workshop was a success and Year 10 students will revisit their CVs in Year 11 to develop them further and prepare for their next steps. We continue to work in partnership with Teaching Personnel to support the schools careers programme.
