Every half term the Careers team invite a range of employers to speak to students to increase their knowledge about the wide range of careers that they can access post 16. In the month of March, Jet2 and Vallely Tankers were invited into the academy to speak to students in KS3 and KS4 about their company, values, careers on offer and apprenticeships for school leavers.
The Jet2 assembly was delivered by Cerys Glynn (Emerging Talent and Careers Administrator), who had secured her job at Jet2 via their apprenticeship route. Cerys discussed her journey from finishing school to her current role, she discussed what it’s like to be an apprentice and the benefits of undertaking an apprenticeship. She covered the wide range of careers from Cabin Crew, Data Analysts to Administration roles. A key part of the workshop was to explain the values of Jet2 and what behaviours are needed to be successful in the workplace.
Sean Hughes from Vallely Tankers delivered an assembly where students were informed about the locality of the company in LS10 and its many careers from Fabricators, Welders to Auto Electrical positions. They also made students aware they are recruiting for apprentices for Sept 2025.
The Vallely Tankers assembly will be followed up by a site visit for several students to their Hunslet site, for those who have shown an interest in Engineering and related careers. The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work with both Jet2 and Vallely Tankers to promote Post 16 options and inspire its students.
