Y8 Curriculum Update
In HT1, Year 8 have been looking at the text Touching the Void. This non-fiction novel tells the tale of an expedition up one of the world’s most perilous mountains. The students have worked on improving their reading skills by practising a range of exam-style questions. Additionally, they have been considering the thoughts and feelings of the men who climbed the treacherous mountain and the resilience they would have needed to survive their mission. This has been a springboard for some of their own creative writing.
Y9 Curriculum Update
In HT1, Year 9 have been dissecting examples of fake news. They have considered the purpose of such media and thought carefully about how this might be a dangerous source of information. To develop their writing skills, they have been constructing their own fake news articles, looking specifically at the features of this particular text type. They have written tall tales of wild beasts roaming the school grounds and weird and wonderful cures for diseases.
