In KS3 this half term, students have been focused on the theme of misogyny, building their reading skills in English. Y7 have been exploring the world of 1930s America through the novel Of Mice and Men, a classic novel that details the adventures of Lennie and George in their pursuit of the American Dream. Here, the students have looked in detail at the protagonists and considered closely the relationship they share. Y8 have been engaging in the forensic reading of My Last Duchess, a poem that tells the story of a misogynist Duke and his unfortunate wife. The students have spent time unpicking the old fashioned language and solving the mystery of the Duchess’ disappearance. We have enjoyed exploring the representation of women in both of these key texts and developed our views about gender equality.
