Year 7
In HT3, Year 7 have been reading and responding to the novel Of Mice and Men (J. Steinbeck). They have considered, in detail, aspects of context and characterisation. They have also begun to answer more extended inference questions about how writers create different effects using different techniques. Their reading has been a springboard for some article writing.
Y8 Curriculum Update
In HT3, Year 8 have been reading The Outsiders (S.E. Hinton) and developing their analytical skills. This seminal novella tells the story of two opposing gangs in Oklahoma, in 1965. Told from the perspective of 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis, the story details the trials and tribulations of teenage life. The students have explored the context of the novel, as well as looking in depth at significant extracts and delving into the art of characterisation. This has been a springboard for review writing and some more creative work on graphic novels.
