Year 7

Year 7 students have now completed their study of ‘The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas’ and have been able to focus not only on the narrative devices and techniques used by the writer, but to explore the Holocaust and issues surrounding prejudice and discrimination.  From here, they will now move forward to an exciting new unit which focuses on non-fiction texts and transactional writing, exploring the first and only voyage of the Titanic.

Year 8

Year 8 spent the last half term engrossed in Barry Hines’ epic novel, ‘A Kestrel for a Knave.’  They will now move onto studying a range of non-fiction texts working under the thematic title, ‘Mountain.’ The ground-breaking account from ‘Touching the Void’ will be the main piece of stimulus material, but the unit will also enable students to consider the metaphorical meaning of mountain, linking it with challenge, overcoming difficulty and achieving meaningful goals.
