In KS4 this half term, students have been developing their GCSE skills from the previous half term. In Y9, students have been learning about human rights through the ages, and across the world. They began by delving into the past, looking at the lives of chimney sweeps in Victorian England, and have finished by looking at extracts from Animal Farm, a novel about an animal uprising. In Y10, our theme has been focused on the fragile earth. All classes have considered a variety of ecological and humanitarian issues to do with climate change. They have produced some excellent speeches on an issue of their choice and revisited retrieval, inference, and evaluative reading skills from last half term. In Y11, students have spent their time looking at authorial method and the key elements of story writing. We began by dissecting a variety of literary extracts from famous authors such as Daphne Du Maurier and Phillip Pullman, then began to work on our own narrative adventures. The preparation of an examination narrative is a significant part of our work this year as it will eventually count for 20% of their overall grade. Students have chosen personal anecdotes to turn into their work of fiction.
