Y10 Curriculum Update

In HT2, Year 10 have completed their first Trust-wide assessment. To do this, they needed to apply their knowledge from HT1. Many of the students chose to write stories entitled The Gift and captured the excitement of waking up on a special occasion desperate to open your presents. Following this, the year group have undertaken work around the transactional text type of a speech and used their Forensic Reading text, The Good Immigrant, as inspiration. Through studying Musa Okwonga’s writing, which details his life growing up and the challenges he faced, they have been able to explore many issues around immigration and how it might feel to be in the minority in any part of society.

Y11 Curriculum Update

In HT2, Year 11 took on the task of completing their first series of mock examinations. Though this was a challenge, many of them rose to the occasion and had much success in practicing their exam skills. They have then undertaken a unit of work that is intended to improve their prose writing skills. This aspect of the course is worth 20% of their overall grade and therefore represents a significant piece of work. Some of the Y11 students have also been working towards their Functional Skills qualification and have been mastering writing for various transactional purposes.
