In Y9 this half term, students have been looking at two key literature texts from the Power and Conflict GCSE anthology. We have spent time unpicking the language of War Photographer (Carol Ann Duffy) and considering how conflict is represented in Kamikaze (Beatrice Garland). In Y10, we have been focused on the magic of storytelling, developing our ideas around characterisation by looking at literary classics such as The Great Gatsby (F. Scott Fitzgerald) and considering implicit and explicit meaning in Snowdrops (Leslie Norris). Finally, in Y11, students have spent time revisiting skills for the Component 2 paper, reading and writing non-fiction. This has allowed them to explore the idea of whale hunting whilst completing tasks from a past paper, and also for them to plan and write a formal letter looking at the issue of motor cycle racing.
