Y9 Curriculum Update
In HT3, Year 9 have been deconstructing two poems from the GCSE power and conflict anthology. They have looked at the theme of identity in the poems Émigrée (C. Rumens) and Checking Out Me History (J. Agard). Discussion around what makes up our own identity and the identity of others has supported their learning. This has been the basis for some transactional writing, focusing on letters and speeches, in particular. Finally, students completed an analytical comparison of the two poems, considering how the authors present ideas to do with identity.
Y10 Curriculum Update
In HT3, Year 10 have been focused on developing their own GCSE-style narratives. They began the HT looking at the short story Snowdrops (L. Norris) and considering how this author presented ideas to do with setting and characterisartion. They continued their learning by looking at a series of renowned characters, such as Jay Gatsby (The Great Gatsby – F.S. Fitzgerald) and Lord Asriel (His Dark Materials – P. Pullman), considering how authors construct these elements of their writing. This culminated in them drafting, and writing, their own narratives which focused specifically on setting, characterisation and sequencing of events to build tension.
Y11 Curriculum Update
In HT3, Year 11 have been focused on improving their exam skills. This has covered both reading and writing across Component 1 (Fiction) and Component 2 (Non-Fiction). The students have worked tirelessly on improving key areas for development arising from their previous mock examinations in order to help them prepare for the forthcoming series. Of note, they have written some excellent opinionated formal letters, brushed up on Component 1 reading rubric and plugged gaps in knowledge around Both and Comparison questions for Component 2.
