Year 9 and Year 10
Year 9 and Year 10 are now well underway with their GCSE focus and preparation. Having studied a number of poems from the ‘Peace and Conflict’ section of the Anthology, they are now focusing on two very challenging themes throughout this term. The first of these is ‘Misogynies’ which is a controversial and powerful journey through society’s views on women through the poem ‘My Last Duchess’ and a range of non-fiction texts. The second of these themes focuses on the title ‘Fragile Earth,’ which explores the dire fragility of our planet and the urgent need to take action. This is again explored through the analysis of ground-breaking non-fiction and fiction texts which celebrate both the beauty of our Earth and humanity’s destructive forces.
Year 11
As we approach the final exams, Year 11 have worked extensively this term on developing their skills in creating a narrative response to Component 1 of the exam. They will now focus extensively on honing their skills as readers for the exam, drawing out features of language and structure in prose extracts and becoming proficient at comparing old and new texts. Their knowledge of the exam rubric will be key to ensuring that they are fully prepared for both Component 1 and Component 2 of the paper and confident in their responses. Developing students’ resilience as writers will be a key focus area for this term.
