A large number of students are currently accessing enrichment clubs on Friday afternoons as a result of positive engagement during their programme of study.
The students in PE have been able to use the trampolines, they have learnt how to stop safely, to straddle, pike and tuck. They have also been able to perform seat drops and back drops. Our most confident students will be working toward performing set routines which may climax with a somersault.
A number of students have chosen to improve their cooking skills with Miss Kelly, they have made shortbread, sponge drops, chocolate biscuits, muffins and gummy bear heart cookies. Miss Kelly has offered a taste of our cooking curriculum with a view that students may opt for this when choosing their curriculum options next year.
Miss Foley has run a successful art club whereby students have been using different clay techniques to create different styles of ceramic pots. Students start off by producing a pinch pot which is the simplest pot design, and then advance to coil pots which takes much more skill and time. Once students have created their pots and they have been left to set, they are then able to produce designs with which to paint onto their pots using acrylic paint. Stress ball making club has seen every day house hold materials used to make stress balls and during character drawing students have used step by step drawing techniques to re-create popular film and TV characters.
One of the most popular clubs is Mr Sharpe’s Warhammer club. Warhammer is a table top battle game which puts players in command of armies of valiant humans, noble elves, savage orcs or a variety of twisted and monstrous creatures. Players collect forces of miniature plastic models, all with different stats and abilities, and use them to play out clashes on a table top battlefield. Mr Sharpe’s students have painted their own miniatures and are now in the process of learning the rules of the game.
