Elliott Hudson College (24 September 2024)
Elliott Hudson College staff were invited to speak to Stephen Longfellow Academy students about their provision. The assembly was to raise awareness of their post 16 offer of A Levels, Vocational Courses and T Levels. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions at every stage and were given very clear information about courses, entry requirements, open days, location, and the application process.
Students responded well to the assembly, feedback from students said they had learned about the Elliott Hudson Offer and 40% of KS4 of students would consider making an application. A bespoke visit will be set up for interested Year 11 students to the Elliott Hudson College campus, so that they can make an informed choice.
Leeds City College assemblies (1 & 2 October 2024)
As part of the Stephen Longfellow Academy careers programme, Leeds City College were invited to deliver assemblies to all students across Key stage 3 (KS3) and Key stage 4 (KS4). The aim was to introduce the college to KS3 students and to ensure that KS4 students had a greater awareness of Leeds City College as a realistic post 16 option choice.
Students in KS3 were provided with an introduction to the college, explaining the main campuses and their locations across the Leeds area, and an explanation of the options available. The KS4 assembly offered detailed information about courses, as well as open day information. All students were given an insight into the differences between the Vocational, A Level, T Level and Apprenticeships offered by the college and how and when to apply. Support and enrichment opportunities at the college were also discussed. In both assemblies students were given the opportunity to ask questions about the college and have dialogue with the speakers.
Overall, feedback from teaching staff indicated that the assemblies were positive. Teaching Staff stated: “I didn’t know they offered Apprenticeships as well” and “useful information exactly what students need to know for their next steps.”
Student feedback was also positive with 75% of students stating that they would consider the college post 16. The work with Leeds City College will continue across the year with planned visits to the Quarry Hill & Printworks campuses in November for students to experience a college environment and have a tour of the facilities.
Jane Fitzpatrick (School Liaison Officer) from Leeds City College said,
“I feel the assemblies were well received by students and they behaved and listened well”.

- “ I didn’t know that they had wellbeing dogs for students who get worried” Year 9 Student.

The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work in partnership with Leeds City College to raise awareness of post 16 options and to support the transition of its students to post 16.
