Year 10 and Year 11 students were given the opportunity to tour the Leeds City College Printworks Campus site on 24 November 2022. The aim was to improve students’ awareness of local further education provision, raise aspirations and to support the potential transition for some of our year 11 students.
This visit was a follow up activity to the Post 16 option assemblies which had recently taken place in the academy for Key stage 4.
On arrival at Leeds City College, Printworks campus, students were given a short recap on the variety of programmes offered within this campus and others citywide. This was followed by a tour of the college, including the Engineering, Motor Vehicle, Patisserie, Hair & Beauty and Travel and Tourism departments to name a few.
The impact of this visit was immediately visible, with some students expressing an interest in the courses offered by Leeds City College such as Motor vehicle, Engineering, and Hair and Beauty.
Feedback collected from students showed:
90% agreed that the visit has increased awareness of the different types of courses offered at Leeds City College.
90% said they would recommend the tour to other students.
Feedback from staff at Leeds City College was also very positive:
“I enjoyed showing you all round today and although your students might have been a little louder than some other tours, I really liked seeing their enthusiasm for certain subject areas and I do feel they showed a good level of respect. For vulnerable students in year 11, who didn’t attend the day but had shown an interest in Leeds City College, will be offered a bespoke visit with Mr Gill (Careers Officer) at an alternative date.
The Stephen Longfellow Academy has a data sharing agreement with Leeds City College. This agreement allows the tracking and monitoring of all Year 11 student applications to Leeds City College. Mr Gill is notified by the college when students have interviews, and he can support as required. The Stephen Longfellow will continue to work with Leeds City College to support its students.
