Key stage 4 students were given the opportunity to tour the Leeds City College (Printworks Campus) on 5 November 2024. The aim was to improve student awareness of local further education provision, raise aspirations and to support the potential transition for some of our year 11 students.
This visit was a follow up activity to the Post 16 option assemblies which had recently taken place in the academy.
On arrival at Leeds City College (Printworks campus) students were given a short recap on the variety of programmes offered within this campus and others citywide. This was followed by a tour of the college, which included the Engineering, Motor Vehicle, Electrical, Patisserie, Hair & Beauty and Travel and Tourism departments. Students also had a chance to ask the Student Liaison Officer questions about the college as they sat in the college restaurant enjoying cookies made by college students.
Students enjoyed the tour and were interested in many of the courses and apprenticeships offered by Leeds City College.
Feedback collected from students showed:
100% agreed that the visit has increased awareness of the different types of courses offered at Leeds City College.
90% said they would recommend the tour to other students.
80% of year 11 students who attended said they would be making an application to Leeds City College.
Feedback from staff at Leeds City College was also very positive:
“All students demonstrated positive behaviour and engaged well with the visit. Look forward to seeing students on the next one to the Quarry Hill Campus”.

For vulnerable students in year 11, who didn’t attend the day but had shown an interest in Leeds City College, will be offered a bespoke visit with Mr Gill (Careers Officer) at an alternative date. Mr Gill will engage Year 11 interested students and support their applications to the college. Another college visit is arranged for students in December to see the Quarry Hill campus which offers courses in Healthcare, Childcare, Design and Public services.
The Stephen Longfellow Academy has a data sharing agreement with Leeds City College. This agreement allows the tracking and monitoring of all Year 11 student applications to Leeds City College. Mr Gill (Director of Careers) is notified by the college when students have interviews, and he can support as required. The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work with Leeds City College to support its students making the transition to a positive destination.
