The Stephen Longfellow Academy careers department invited representatives from Bradford University to deliver a health and social care workshop to students in Year 10. The aim of the workshop was to show students how their current subject of health and social care links to real world careers that make a difference to people’s lives.

Students were also given labour market information about a range of careers from Nursing to Pharmacy and informed of how these areas can be studied at Bradford University. The workshop was engaging and inspiring and also included a question and answer session. Students asked positive questions about careers, courses and university study. The workshop was led by Senior Outreach Officer and an Alumni from Bradford University.

Student feedback

Student feedback was really positive, all students said they enjoyed the workshop and learned about new health and social care careers. All students said they would recommend the workshop to other students and 80% said they would like to visit Bradford University and look at the health and care related departments. The careers department will set up this visit for June 2026.

They also were very knowledgeable when I asked what NHS staff start earning when they are qualified, and they were keen to share their experiences of family that work in healthcare.
