During Half Term 4, students from The Stephen Longfellow Academy competed in their first ever karate fixture against students from The John Smeaton Academy. This was the first time that students from TSLA have competed in a fixture at another academy, and they did both themselves, and the academy proud! All the young people involved showed high levels of resilience, determination, and control throughout the fixture. The boy’s behaviour was exemplary, and they had the opportunity to showcase the skills that they have developed over the academic year during the Karate enrichment club here at TSLA. Furthermore, the three young people competing offered each other several words of encouragement throughout the event, epitomising the school motto of “We walk together”. The highlight of the event was students from both academies working together to pack away all the equipment following the fixture. A special mention goes out to Year 11 student Timo, who won 2 out of 3 of his fights in his first ever fixture.
