Year 7 are currently learning about the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Focusing on how and why it happened and whether William I had a positive or a negative impact on England when he became king. This work leads onto looking at England’s first castles, the different types of castles and why they were built in the first place. As an end of topic project, students will be able to make their very own model castle.
Year 8 students have been studying Jack the Ripper. We have looked at the crimes he committed and how the living conditions of 1888 in London would have helped him to literally get away with murder! We have spent a lot of time evaluating the reasons why it was so difficult for the police to catch him, and as a result, the students imagined they were concerned citizens living at the time and have created their own ‘Wanted’ posters, as well as letters to the Chief of Police stating who they think might have been ‘Jack the Ripper’ and why. The posters and letters were then crumpled up and stained with tea to make them look really old and authentic!
