Year 6 Students were given the opportunity to attend a “Raising Aspirations Day” at Leeds Trinity University. The aim was to inspire Primary students about university life, Higher Education and get them thinking about what they want to be in the future. The students worked with a multitude of other Primary School children from across Leeds undertaking a range of team and individual tasks e.g. learning about Higher Education key terms, word searches and several other activities in a fun way. Students were also given a tour of the campus and shown the facilities and accommodation, providing a real insight into life at university.
Feedback from students was positive and included:
- 100% of pupils said they enjoyed the visit and tasks.
- 100% of pupils said they would recommend the visit to other pupils.
- 100% of pupils said they had learned about what a university is and about living there.
- 80% of students said they didn’t know about university prior to the event.

“The visit was great yesterday and pupils behaved very well. They remained engaged throughout the visit as the day was filled with a variety of tasks and activities to complete. All pupils really enjoyed the visit, with the majority favouring the tour around campus and seeing how a university student lives. They also enjoyed completing the Suitcase activity where they were asked what items they would take to university with them.” Ms Palmer (Primary Teacher)
The Stephen Longfellow will continue to work with Leeds Trinity University to develop our Primary Careers Programme.
