Year 9
Year 9 begin a 3-year GCSE curriculum leading to their final linear exams in Year 11. As such, we have started the year with a unit focusing on key Number topics to prepare them for GCSE study. This has included calculations with decimals, understanding different types of numbers e.g. multiples, factors, primes and calculating the Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) and Highest Common Factor (HCF).
Year 10
The Year 10s have started the year on Unit 1 Number, covering topics such as Order of Operations (BIDMAS), Converting Metric units, Percentages including Increases/Decreases and finding the HCF and LCM using Venn Diagrams.
They have then moved onto Unit 2, which focuses on understanding and manipulating Algebraic Expressions.
Year 11
Year 11 have covered 2 key units prior to completing a GCSE past paper as part of their exam preparation for their linear exams in Summer 2021. These 2 units have covered arithmetic with Fractions including Mixed Numbers followed by arithmetic with Standard Form.
In both units, an emphasis has been placed on mathematical fluency but also on developing mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
