Year 10
Year 10 are progressing into their second year of the GCSE specification by covering Unit 7 on Averages and Range, a topic that previously would have been covered in Year 9 had the year not been impeded by the national lockdowns. Students have then progressed onto Unit 8 – Area, Surface Area and Volume of 2D and 3D shapes.
Ruell (Year 10) has improved his fluency here in calculating the mean whilst recapping the skill of short division.
Morgan (Year 10) – Excellent understanding of Averages shown in this Progress Assignment.
Kayden (Year 10) – Kayden has displayed high levels of fluency when calculating the area of a triangle.
Year 11
Year 11 have covered 2 key units prior to completing a GCSE past paper as part of their exam preparation for their linear exams in Summer 2021. These 2 units have covered arithmetic with Fractions including Mixed Numbers followed by arithmetic with Standard Form. In both units, an emphasis has been placed on mathematical fluency but also on developing mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
Timo (Year 11) – Timo has demonstrated here an excellent understanding of multiplying mixed numbers, including in the context of area.
Cameron (Year 11) – Cameron has developed his fluency in converting mixed numbers to improper fractions.
Mackenzie (Year 11) used his skills of converting mixed numbers to improper fractions to crack this codebreaker! He then went on applying this understanding to adding mixed numbers.
Sophia (Year 11) – Sophia has displayed high levels of fluency when dividing mixed numbers and fractions.
