Healthy Eating at The Stephen Longfellow Academy

At The Stephen Longfellow Academy, we are passionate to ensure all our young people have access to a wide range of healthy food choices throughout the academy day.

In order to promote a positive start to learning, toast and juice are provided free of charge, both upon arrival and at break time for all secondary students.

Lunchtime Menu

Lunchtime provides the opportunity for our school community to come together with nutritious and delicious meals on offer for both staff and students.

Working in partnership with Taylor Shaw (a leading education catering company), students at the academy are offered a daily selection of meal options including;

  • Hot meal of the day with a selection of seasonal vegetables (vegetarian option also available)

  • Jacket potato with a variety of fillings and sald

  • Homemade Soup*

  • Salad with an option of topping*

  • Sandwiches, wraps and baguettes*

  • Selection of desserts including fresh fruit, fruit salad and yogurt *

  • Fruit juices

  • Bottled water

During Form Time students are encouraged each morning to pre order a Meal Deal which includes; a main meal, a dessert and a drink. All Meal Deals cost £2.40.

Did you know your child may be entitled to free school meals!

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you receive any of the following:

  • Income Support

  • Income Based Job Seeker’s allowance

  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance

  • Support under Part 6 of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • Guaranteed element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit with an annual income of less than £16190, provided you are not receiving Working Tax Credit

  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.

Please be aware, families receiving Working Tax Credit, no matter what their income is, do NOT qualify for free school meals.

ParentPay

The Stephen Longfellow Academy operates a cashless catering system whereby students pay for their meals through ParentPay. All parents have secure access to enable them to top up their child’s account at any time. If you have any difficulty in accessing you ParentPay account, please do not hesitate to contact Student Services at the academy on 0113 4685999.
