They have also had the opportunity to use some of the cardiovascular equipment, testing their running, rowing and cycling skills to improve their fitness.

The first thing students completed this half term was some baseline fitness tests, looking at coordination, power and aerobic endurance. Students will revisit these throughout the year. Students then began a series of lessons on Badminton, they behan looking at the under arm flick serve, breaking this down in stages so students can do this effectively in a game situation. Students then competed against one another in a house competition and applying the skills they have learnt throughout the block of work.

TSLA PE– HT1 Website update (Year 10)

Students have been completing mock assignments that will support them during the assessment window in February. These have all been around looking at a sport such as football, badminton, rugby and they have to create some drills for different individuals to improve their performance. Students have done extremely well at identifying the correct teaching points that they would provide for different skills within that sport. They have then put this information into a lesson plan and delivered it during their practical lessons.

During practical they have also been looking at how to be an effective sports leader during a session. How do they communicate effectively? Where do they stand? How do they dress? How do they speak? Ensuring that they explore the importance of these different elements.

TSLA PE– HT1 Website update (Year 11)

Students have had split lessons, one lesson per week concentrating on the unit 1 exam which they will sit at Easter time. Students have recalled the components of fitness and their importance to sports performers and more specifically on individual positions within a sport. In the remaining lessons they have completed outstanding coursework in unit 2 looking at rules and regulations. Finally in practical lessons students have been in the gym in preparation for unit 3 where they will design and complete a 6 week training programme.
