During HT1 our year 8 students have been working tirelessly improving their fitness levels and consolidating their knowledge of components of fitness. In lessons students have been improving their fitness levels by looking at various different training methods and tests. Students are able to confidently define the definitions of some components and give examples of athletes who might use these. Through the Multi-Stage Fitness test and Illinois Agility test students are able to focus on improving their aerobic endurance, speed and agility to become better athletes.
In KS4 students have been physically active and taken interest on wanting to improve their fitness levels. This half term they have had the choice of the gym or table tennis during their PE lessons. The gym has been very popular with students as they are becoming more self-aware of their body image and wanting to make healthier lifestyle choices. Table tennis has also been popular as students are wanting to enjoy physical activity in competitive situations, they have developed their social interactions with other students and had to follow rules showing sportsmanship. Within these lessons students have also applied the rules of the game into these situations, this has allowed BTEC Sport students to secure knowledge and support other students in understanding the game. We have introduced theoretical knowledge so they can gain a better understanding of physical activity and how we can improve our fitness levels. They have been monitoring their heart rates during warm ups and looking at aerobic and muscular endurance. Some students can now define those two components of fitness and give specific sporting example. This is important as BTEC Sport students will need this knowledge for their exam in year 10.
