Year 8
During HT2 the year 8 students have been introduced to volleyball. They have been working hard on mastering skills in isolation and applying them in conditioned practices. They have looked at footwork, the serve, the dig and the set. Students break the skill down into coaching points and develop a secure understanding of how the skills performed. Students practically demonstrate skills such as the dig and set. They look to demonstrate the dig with excellent foot position, arm position and keeping their eyes on the ball ready. For the set shot, we look for a diamond shape being made with their hands above their head ready to extend and hit the ball high towards the net.

The second group of year 8 students this half term have been working hard in the gym. They have been looking at how they can improve their aerobic and muscular endurance by the use of different methods of training. Students are also able to link exercise intensity to heart rate, so monitor this during lessons to ensure they are working hard enough.

BTEC Year 9
In year 9 BTEC students have been looking at the technical demands of table tennis and volleyball. We have broken down each skill and described how they are performed and showed an understanding of when they would be performed. Students then demonstrated their understanding by being able to perform this in a practical environment. We have just moved onto looking at the physical components needed for the two sports and why these are important within sport.
