BTEC Year 9
In Year 9 students started their BTEC Sport option. We started on Unit 2, Practical Performance in Sport; Learning Aim A. In HT1 students developed their knowledge and understanding of rules, regulations and scoring systems in two selected sports. Students are now able to identify between rules and regulations and gained an understanding to why governing bodies have laws in sport. Whilst producing their coursework, students have described different rules, regulations and scoring systems and explained how they are applied in a game. Students finished off this half term with completing the final piece of coursework and they gained knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of officials within 2 sports. They have been able to identify the role, describe their responsibilities and then explain what each official would do in certain situations. In practical BTEC lessons students have been given opportunities to develop their confidence and communications skills and have taken on roles of officials. They were filmed applying the rules of the game as part of their coursework.
BTEC Year 10
As a result of school closures this half-term students were completing any outstanding coursework for Unit 2. Year 10 started Learning Aim C which was to review their performances in two different sports. Using video analysis students completed a performance checklist to highlight their strengths and areas for development, explaining how these impacted their performance. From this they were able to recommend activities that would improve these areas for development and make progress in that sport.
NCFE Year 11
In Year 11 students are due to sit their NCFE PE exam next month. They have been hard at work revising and revisiting topics that are covered in preparation for this. They are now more confident in topics such as health and skill components of fitness, identifying and describe their definitions and being able to link it to the relevant fitness tests and also the principles of training. Through revision they have been looking in depth at exam technique and how to access the longer 9 and 6 mark questions. They are following a structure to break down the answering of questions which in turn will hopefully maximise their marks on the day. As part of a mock exam we highlighted that students had gaps in their knowledge around their understanding of the heart structure. Students were able to dissect a heart to enrich their knowledge in the different chambers of the heart and the blood vessels.
