Year 9 Core
Year 9 students have been playing football in Half Term 3. Students have looked at passing, dribbling and shooting in isolation, increasing the difficulty by adding a passive defender and then seeing if they can perform these skills in a competitive match situation. To ensure all students are engaged, some students took up refereeing responsibilities and later in the half term, have been able to access the gym to increase their muscular endurance, muscular strength or aerobic endurance.

Year 9 BTEC
Students have been working on Component 2 of the New BTEC Tech Award in Sport qualification. They have been identifying what the different components of fitness are required for each of the different sports and activities that there are. They have begun to complete some independent work that will go towards their coursework and applying the knowledge that they have built up. Next they will be looking at different skills and drills and how to help someone improve their performance within table tennis.

Year 10 Core
During half term 3, year 10 students have been developing their skills in football. We have completed a range of activities and drills to enhance their technical abilities including passing, shooting and dribbling. All aspects of individual and team performance were applied in our lessons to mimic a real game scenario. Students have also taken leadership responsibilities in either coaching or officiating which gives an in depth look into the tactics and rules of the sport. In the later stages of the half term, we allowed students to access the gym and improve different components of fitness in relation to areas they wish to develop in their game.

Year 10 BTEC
During half term 3, Year 10 BTEC students have been preparing for the Unit 1 exam that they will be sitting this academic year. Students have completed a wide range of different tasks including iterative assessments, independent research tasks and regular fluency tests to check their understanding. Included below is a photo of a fluency test completed SH which shows that deep understanding of the components of fitness. Also included is a part of SS mock exam, within this he was able to recall key bits of information from this HT.

Year 11 Core
Within core PE lessons in half term 3, Year 11 students have an option of which practical they wish to do to ensure that they are using their time effectively. Students this half term have been able to choose between 5 a side football in the sports hall, table tennis or using the gym.

Year 11 – BTEC
Year 11 BTEC students have been completing their unit 3 coursework. They have been tasked with creating a 6-week fitness programme for a client which should improve their performance in their chosen sport. Students have completed medical questionnaires and gone through fitness tests with their clients to ensure their program is safe and effective.
