KS3
TSLA Science – HT1 Website update (Year 7)
This half term in Science, Year 7 have been learning about Atoms. Elements and compounds. To begin this topic, our year 7 pupil learnt about the different states of matter and participated in several practical lessons to investigate how materials can change state. Year 7 also learnt about particle theory, which explains how the arrangement of particles affects different material properties. Finally, our year 7 pupil explored elements, compounds and mixtures and investigated how to separate mixtures in a variety of different ways. To ensure understanding, Year 7 also answered a range of exam style questions using their knowledge from the practical lessons.
TSLA Science – HT1 Website update (Year 8)
In year 8, pupils have been exploring the topic of plants and cells. To begin this topic, pupils investigated plant cell structure and the functions of the different cells. Pupils also learnt about the process of photosynthesis and conducted experiments to learn about diffusion.
TSLA Science – HT1 Website update (Year 9)
During HT1 year 9 have been looking at the specialised cells and modelling of scientific ideas. They have looked at both eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells with a focus on specialised cell. E.g. sperm cells, nerve cells etc. They have taken part in a microscopy practical and moved onto diffusion and osmosis.
KS4
TSLA Science – HT1 Website update (Year 10)
During HT1 year 10 have been looking at the difficult concept of structure and bonding. They have revisited atomic structure and electronic configuration and developed their knowledge on ionic and covalent bonding. Below, the image shows Lola and Summer’s work looking at electronic configuration.
TSLA Science – HT1 Website update (Year 11)
Throughout this half term year 11 have been working on the physics topic Waves and then the biology topic Ecology. They have studied the uses of electromagnetic waves and in detail the electromagnetic spectrum. Students have also looked at different ecosystems and how we can have an impact on biodiversity.
