Year 7
During HT2 Year 7 students studied their first chemistry and biology topics. The atoms, elements and compounds topic included describing particle theory and how substances change state. Students then moved onto the humans as organisms topic, this included developing their understanding of the fundamental topic of cells.
Year 8
During HT2 students developed their knowledge of Biology topic respiration and complete the Chemistry topic Periodic Table. In the respiration topic student were exposed to the different types of respiration and investigated how the body responds to exercise, this is a fundamental topic and sets students up with the exact knowledge needed to succeed in Science. The Periodic Table topic focused on the fundamentals of atomic structure.
Year 9
In Year 9 students begin their GCSE studies, the Chemistry section of the AQA Specification starts in HT2 with students developing their understanding of the fundamental topic of atomic structure. Students described the different separation techniques for separating mixtures, this included several practicals and allowed students to develop their working scientifically skills. The topic developed with students describing in detail the structure of an atom, the differences between atoms and isotopes and properties of the Periodic Table in particular Group 1, 0 and 7.
