Year 7
During HT2 Year 7 students completed the Humans and Organisms topic. This included developing the knowledge on cells that was learnt in HT2. This half term focussed on the different organs and organ systems of the human body. The students also had their first experience of dissection an organ, both students had the opportunity to dissect a heart and were able to link this to the learning in their lessons.
Year 8
During HT3 students completed the Physics topic Waves. In this topic students were exposed to the different types of waves, Electromagnetic Waves and the wavespeed equation. During the wavespeed calcualtions students were able to calculate the speed of a wave, the wavelength and the frequency of the wave.
Year 9
The Physics section of the AQA Specification starts in HT3 with students developing their understanding of the fundamental topic of energy. Students described the different energy stores, this included several calculations to develop their mathematical skills. The topic continued with students describing in detail the differences between the different type of energy resources, which is a key feature in the News today. To engage students in learning science and to link into the next half term, students were given the opportunity to perform a dissection on a sheep’s head.
