Year 7 have been looking at the feeding relationships between organisms. What eats what and how a change in this balanced web of life can affect all the organisms in a habitat. They have looked at the features animals have that help them to survive and designed their own super survivor creature.
The year 7’s have also begun to observe how forces affect the movement of objects as varied as balloon rockets and blocks of ice.
This half term year 8 have been looking at the Earth’s atmosphere, in particular, the effects that human activity can have on our atmosphere. This included an investigation into how rainwater with different pH affected the germination of cress seeds.
They have also begun a topic on genetics, reminding themselves how fertilisation occurs and extracting the DNA from strawberries.
Year 9 have been looking at how the circulatory system works and researching the possible health effects of a poor lifestyle. They have compared this to how plants are organised by looking at the structure and function of leaves using microscopes.
They have gone on to investigate how matter behaves when changing state and when chemical reactions happen. This has involved producing cooling curves for stearic acid and reacting metals with oxygen in the air.
