Science (KS4) – Half Term 1 Update – 2021/22

Year 10

Year 10 students have focused on two fundamental Chemistry topics in HT1 structure and bonding and chemical changes. Some of the key components they have learnt include working scientifically skills in determining the pH of substances, making a soluble salt from insoluble salts and electrolysis which are required practices which not only are included within GCSE examinations but also inspire and engage the true chemists between us.

Students show their understanding of electron structure within different elements and also the ions that are formed.

Year 11

During HT1 our year 11 students have started exploring the Inheritance topic focusing on topics which require us to think about the ethics behind science and give our own opinion. Students also looked and inherited disorders and how they are passed from parent to offspring. Our year 11 students also completed an assessment on this unit of work of which many were successful, demonstrating successfully how well our students can answer GCSE past paper questions.

After dwelling deep into the Inheritance topic our students moved onto the physics topic of forces, where our students demonstrated the ability to apply transferable skills which they have gained in Maths.
