Year 10
During HT2, Year 10 students finished the GCSE the Biology topic Infection and Response and completed the Chemistry Quantitative Chemistry topic. Students were able to describe how microorganisms cause disease in both animals and plants in the Infection and Response topic. This topic explored how we can avoid diseases as well as how the body defends itself against these microorganisms. Students then moved onto the Quantitative Chemistry topic and learnt skills that are frequently used in every single chemical reaction. Alongside this students were able to apply their mathematical skills to determine the formulae of chemical reactions.
Year 11
At the start of half term 2 Year 11 students completed their mock examinations in Biology and Chemistry. After the mock examinations students completed any work from the outstanding Waves topic and then studied the Chemical Analysis, both from the AQA Trilogy Specification. During the physics topics students practiced their practical skills in investigating refraction and infrared radiation. The Chemical Analysis topic looked at the different techniques used to accurately analyse chemicals, Forensic scientists rely on such instrumental methods in their work.
