Year 10

This half term, year 10 have been studying atomic structure and radiation. We have looked in detail at:

  • the structure of an atom
  • types of radiation
  • nuclear decay and half life
  • irradiation and contamination
  • sources of radiation

Year 11

In preparation for their June exams, year 11 have studied both the ecology and chemistry of the atmosphere topics. During the ecology topic, students have looked at closely at the human impact on planet earth, specifically the carbon cycle, global warming and climate change. Using mathematical concepts, students are also now able to accurately estimate population using quadrats. During weeks 4 and 5, we have taken a deeper look into the earths’ atmosphere, comparing the early atmosphere to that of today and how greenhouse gases and pollutants are impacting on climate change.

*The science department would like to pay particular praise to students who successfully sat their mock GCSE science papers during the last week of term.
