Year 10
During HT3, Year 10 students finished the GCSE topics Energy Changes and Atomic Structure and Radiation. Students were able to describe the different types of reactions, this included several opportunities to develop their practical and working scientifically skills. The topic Atomic Structure and Radiation explored the fundamentals of atomic structure and developed this into looking at the different types of radiation. Students were exposed to several cases of radiation that has been in the News.
Our Year 10 Tier Two students are currently exploring the Organisation topic, which focuses on structure of the Human Body. This gave the students the opportunity to complete a heart dissection, linking the learning in lessons to a practical aspect of the course.
Year 11
In HT3 Year 11 students completed the Ecology and Magnetism topic. The ecology topic linked several different topics that were previously learnt together and developed understanding. This provided the Year 11 students the opportunity to complete their final GCSE Required Practical. During the physics topic on Magnetism students were exposed to real life studies of how magnets and compasses work, linking Science to the real world. At the end of HT3 the Year 11 students completed their Biology Paper 2 Mock Examination.
Our Year 11 Tier Two students are currently exploring the Inheritance topic, which focuses on genetics. This has given them several opportunities to develop their knowledge of interesting aspects of Science, linking this to real life.
