Year 9
During HT6, year 9 finished the GCSE Physics topic electricity and completed the Biology topic Bioenergetics.
Students practiced their letter writing skills alongside showing their understanding of the importance of safety, within the electricity topic and practiced their graph drawing skills within the Bioenergetics topic to show the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis. They also carried out various experiments to investigate the effect of exercise on the body.
Year 10
During HT6 year 10 finished the GCSE Biology topic Inheritance, variation and evolution and completed the Chemistry topic Organic Chemistry.
Evolution and variation were explored and explained and students were able to identify in detail how different species evolve.
The Organic Chemistry topic looked at how crude oil is formed and the products we get from it. Further work on hydrocarbons delved deeper into alkanes and alkenes and why we “crack” these to get useful products.
