As part of our enrichment/extra-curricular offer to students, an exciting partnership with both the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and Leeds United was formed in the new year and began in February, taking palce on the Bruntcliffe sites 3G pitch. Led by PE teacher Toby
Binnian and NQT Tom O’Neill, key stage 3 students have already benefitted from expert coaching in both football and rugby.
The Rhinos Foundation offers a programme that will enhance and develop physical education at TSLA, raising the profile of becoming physically active whilst developing important soft skills such as resilience, teamwork and communication skills. In week 1 our students engaged in learning core skills, focussing on passing and catching and learning the basics of rugby league. Students then looked at invasion and how to beat a man 1v1 then moved onto 1v2 using decision making to decide if they should pass or go themselves. 10 year 8 and 9 students had a great time, behaving impeccably and received shining reports from their coaches.
The Leeds United soccer school has also proved a big hit with another 8 students from the academy, offering a fun and engaging experience for a broad range of ability (LS may be the next Messi). Sessions are designed to maximise participation through fun and hard work, all students loved their initial experience with many new students now wanting to join the group.
