At TSLA all students in KS4 have access to STEM club. This year’s focus has been an engineering project which has supported student engagement in science, raised post 16 aspirations and strengthens the GCSE science curriculum. Not only this, but the project also allowed students to build a Nitro methane powered radio-controlled car, a significant project which many wouldn’t have access to at home.

A great response from students in KS4 allowed us to build this marvel of a car, allowing students to experience the workings of a car including fully independent suspension and a single piston internal combustion engine.

A large number of students in KS4 spent the afternoon after school supporting the project and putting their all into getting it ready. Students who participated were invited to a careers event with our career’s advisor focusing on painting, bodywork, engineering, and product design.

The successful creation of our very own TSLA RC car has opened the doors to more projects which will be conducted over the course of next year, helping to engage, support and provide a scope of what’s to come in our students’ careers and lives.
