Year 7
Year 7 students completed a AQA award for Healthy Lifestyles. Students developed their knowledge of the 5 different food groups and identified a range of unhealthy foods. Students prepared a variety of healthy snacks and designed their own healthy plate based on the Eatwell guide. The students have investigated the importance of starchy carbohydrates in their diet, they planned and produced their own healthy starchy carbohydrate dish.
Year 8
Year 8 students have been developing their knowledge of food nutrition and why we need vitamins and minerals in our diet. Students made their own healthy soup with a variety of vegetables. They have been working towards a AQA award Preparing food for a specified function, in which students have picked their own function and have been planning possible foods that could be served at their chosen function.
Year 9
Year 9 students have been completing an AQA award for planning, preparing and making a celebration cake. Students have been investigating different types of cakes and used nutritional software to analyse the nutritional content of the cakes. The students conducted research into customer’s preferences and costs. Students have had the opportunity to make different types of cakes, as well designing and making their own. They produced some brilliant and creative cakes including one decorated to look like a pizza and a hidden smarties filled centre, excellent work Year 9!
