Year 7
Year 7 students have been developing their knowledge of planning for a party. Students have used research to identify and understand user needs by choosing a target market for their party and completing a mood board of suitable party foods. They created a specification of key requirements for the party foods, using this to develop a creative menu of ideas. Students produced one of the dishes and then evaluated its success to be served at a party referring to their specification. Great party foods year 7!
Year 8
Year 8 students have been developing their knowledge of planning for an event. They have been working towards a AQA award Preparing food for a specified function, in which students have chosen their own function and have been planning possible foods that could be served at their function. Students have completed market research of foods for their function and created a specification of key requirements for the foods. Students have used the specification to create a menu, produce a sweet and savoury dish suitable for the function and then evaluated their success. Excellent work year 8! Students have also been developing their practical skills and looking at healthy alternatives to foods making a healthier kebab and fake healthier pot noodle.
Year 9
Year 9 students have been completing a WJEC Hospitality and Catering mock coursework project in preparation for year 10. Students have been developing their understanding of the importance of nutrition in planning menus (LO1), describing the functions of a range of nutrients in the human body and comparing nutritional needs of specific groups of people. Excellent work year 9, you have produced some high quality work with descriptive detail. Alongside this the students have created a range of dishes to develop their practical skills including layering to make Shepard’s pie, shaping meat for healthy donner kebab, seasoning sauces to make Jambalaya, poaching fish and coating to make fish cakes and using a temperature probe to check their Jerk chicken was cooked safely.
