Primary students at Stephen Longfellow Academy were given the opportunity to participate in a careers workshop with West Yorkshire Police. The aim of the workshop was to inform students about Careers in the Police force, as part of an introduction into Public Service Careers. Students learned about the different careers from Uniformed Police Officers, Mounted Police to office and administration roles. Students also learned about the role of the Police in keeping us safe and what skills are needed to work in the Police force.
The workshop started with a presentation delivered by PCSO Louise Rothery (Youth Engagement), which was followed by a fun and practical session where students could try on police uniform e.g. riot helmets, hats and visibility vests and finally a question-and-answer session. Student feedback showed: All students enjoyed the workshop with the police. All students could name at least one skill that was needed in the police and a new job role. The Stephen Longfellow Academy will continue to work with West Yorkshire Police to inspire its young people about public service careers.
